Today in religious freedom, an Iowa minister received a threatening letter for officiating a same-sex marriage:
“I think the worst thing you can tell a minister is that God hates you,” he said. “But I think even worse is to tell a grieving husband that not only God hates you, as he hated you, he took your wife from you; that just cut me to the core [and] that just hurt me in so many ways.”
“The letter said the writer “recently discovered McBride performed same-sex weddings” and how it “disturbs” that individual, as well as the community, which is why no one helped McBride after his wife died…”
This is, of course, not the first time religious freedom has proven to be interpreted selectively when it comes to being willing to officiate.
